Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is useful for many types of situations that cause stress, anger, grief or conflict. In a comfortable, private setting, an individual and a therapist will explore many different important issues, including (but not limited to): Expression of thoughts and emotions.

Hi! I am Christina Rodriguez, a counseling student at the Tarleton State University—Fort Worth Campus. I am working on completing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and hope to graduate in May 2025. Throughout my internship, I will be supervised by Shawna Munson, MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S.

I am very family-oriented and have a large, blended family. I have been with my partner for over nine years. He is a retired Navy veteran and active law enforcement officer. I am also a stepmother to four young adults and a young grandmother to a beautiful little girl. I have experienced the ups and downs of dual-parent dynamics and the stresses of being a spouse to someone in law enforcement.

I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2012. After graduation, I moved back to Fort Worth and began working in law enforcement as a 911 Dispatcher. I have worked in this position for over ten years and have heard the worst of the worst. My job is not to judge others but to provide help and a calming voice during a stressful event.

Although I hope to work with individuals with PTSD or those who have a military/law enforcement background, I would love to work with all individuals who are open to working with a new counselor. I like to use a Cognitive-Behavioral approach to counseling. Through Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, we work together to identify unhealthy ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving and change them to be more positive and fulfilling for you. My goal is to guide your journey by creating trust, openness, and a judgment-free space.

“It isn’t what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.” - Dale Carnegie.

Hello,

I’m thrilled to introduce myself as a counseling student at Lamar University, currently under the supervision of Shawna Munson, MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S. My journey in counseling is driven by a powerful vision—to bring people together through genuine connections.

In my pursuit of a deeper understanding of the human experience, I have developed a warm and non-judgmental approach to counseling. I believe in the transformative power of a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions freely. It is within this space that individuals can embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

My commitment extends to fostering a collaborative therapeutic relationship, one that empowers individuals to develop insight, resilience, and the skills needed to navigate life’s complexities. I am passionate about creating an environment where clients feel heard, understood, and supported in their unique journeys toward well-being.

I am excited about the prospect of contributing to the well-being of individuals and communities through my work in counseling. Together, let’s embark on a journey of growth, self-discovery, and meaningful connection.
