Kim Joubert Counseling Student Intern
Hey! My name is Kim Joubert, and I am a Marriage and Family Counseling Student Intern at Lamar University under the supervision of Dr. Shawna Munson, LPC-S, LMFT-S.
I am a proud graduate of Sam Houston State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Victim Studies. I have used that foundation to work with children and families who have experienced extreme trauma, and it has deeply shaped my clinical passions.
Professionally, I am committed to working with individuals of all ages, but I have a special heart for children and families navigating trauma. I believe that healing is not one-size-fits-all, and I am intentional about tailoring each therapeutic experience to the unique needs of those I serve. It is my highest priority that people feel seen, heard, and valued in our work together.
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, and trying new ethnic cuisines and restaurants. I am also active in my church community and love nothing more than curling up with a great book.
I look forward to walking alongside you in your healing journey and supporting you as you grow in the ways that matter most to you.

Rusti Garcia MS, LPC, LCDC
Hello, my name is Rusti Garcia. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under the supervision of Shawna Munson, M.A., LPC-S, LMFT-S.
Prior to seeking a career in the Mental Health field, I worked as a Bereavement Coordinator for a hospice company. This experience opened my eyes to the need for mental health professionals and my heart to care for people’s mental health. While working there, I followed this passion, went back to school, and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Walden University in 2021. I continued at Walden University to complete my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling in May 2023.
I am passionate about working with people diagnosed with mental illnesses and disorders, people experiencing grief, suffering from addiction or a substance use disorder, and challenging life events. I believe the best therapeutic results come from a genuine client-therapist working relationship based on empathy and transparency in a non-judgmental, safe environment. My philosophy is that you know you best; my job is to walk beside you on your journey to self-development, healing, and growth.
In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family, gardening, and volunteering at House of Mary. I look forward to celebrating your personal victories with you.

Ms. Kristen Barho
(She/Her/Hers)
LPC Associate, LCDC, Supervised by Dr. Shawna Munson, LPC-S, LMFT-S
Hello! My name is Kristen Barho, and I am a LPC Associate under the supervision of Dr. Shawna Munson. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in May of 2020 from Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas, and have been a counseling student at Sam Houston since January 2021. So far, I have worked with adolescents and adults on issues related to grief, anxiety, and trauma. While I am still gaining experience and am open to working with a variety of topics, my biggest area of interest is working with survivors of trauma, especially trauma related to intimate partner violence.
I use techniques from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Narrative Therapy and believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives. Instead of counseling being a place where you come in and listen to a stranger talk about what they think is best for you, I hope our work together will be collaborative. I view counseling as a place for teamwork. This means that in our counseling relationship, my focus is on helping you make sense of your life through retelling important stories, finding unique outcomes, and identifying tools you have found helpful in the past. I also believe that the problems we address in counseling together are separate from who you are as a person and that these problems do not define who you are as a person. I hope this sounds like the kind of counseling relationship that would benefit you and look forward to working with you.
In my free time, I enjoy taking care of my two cats and many plants, reading, and trying new things. I can’t wait to get to know more about you!
